In 2008 we began to pray for the Holy Spirit to move in our country. We prayed for the Spirit of Truth to reveal anything hidden that we needed to know. This began happening very quickly. Some might protest that much of what is being illuminated is coming from whistleblowers in the government, but this gives us insight into the work of the Holy Spirit. There were times in the Old Testament when the Lord referred to heathen armies such as the Babylonians as His arm. The Babylonians did not know the Lord, nor did they know that they were being used by Him. In the same way, the Lord is using various people to reveal what we need to know regardless of whether they are aware of it or not.

When these illuminations began, my biggest surprise was not how or through whom the Spirit of Truth did His work, but that so many Christians did not seem to understand or even care about what was being brought to the light. The Holy Spirit is “The Helper,” not “The Doer.” He will do His part, but He expects us to do our part. Because spiritual authority is founded upon love, we must have love for our country to have spiritual authority here. If we love something, we will care deeply about its wellbeing and make every effort to acquire understanding. That was the reason for the birth of The Oak Initiative. It exists to bring resources to Christians of depth and commitment who are willing to be salt and light in their nations (The Oak is now in 165 nations).

We cannot be salt and light without being engaged in the times. Because the Spirit “searches all things, even the depths of God” (see I Corinthians 2:10), no one who is truly led by the Spirit will be shallow in their understanding. If we are led by the Spirit, we will love the truth enough to seek it out, and we will be compelled to have depth to our knowledge.

We have also been given the biblical commands to be salt and light and to occupy until He comes. We see that even when “the abomination of desolation” is being set up, “the people who know their God will display strength and take action” (see Daniel 11:32). We are not here to cower, to hoard, or to merely seek safety for ourselves. We are here to prepare the way for the coming kingdom. This is our time.

It is understandable why many Christians refuse to get engaged in the political process. It is hard not to feel slimed if you even get close to it. However, this is when we need those with the greatest integrity and stoutness of heart to engage in delivering their nations from the darkness that is taking them over.

It is not just into government that we need these brave ones to go. As we have covered, The Great Commission to go into all the world is not only geographical, but must include every field, profession, discipline, sport, etc. The whole world is slipping into a terrible darkness. It is hard to walk down the street or turn on the T.V. without being bombarded with slime. However, we are here for a reason. In times of great darkness, greater light is needed. The prophecies are clear that those who know their God and take action will rise up.
