Safety Director
The role of the Safety Director at H.I.M. and adjoining MorningStar properties is multifaceted, emphasizing the overall safety and security of the facility, its employees, and visitors. This position mandates a comprehensive grasp and application of safety and security protocols, including adherence to fire codes, OSHA regulations, management of crucial administration, fire control systems, and emergency response procedures. The Safety Director's duties also extend to developing and disseminating safety policies, leading training sessions in essential life-saving skills and first aid, addressing and mitigating criminal activities, and maintaining meticulous records and background checks. A significant aspect of this role involves protecting children within the facility. This includes implementing strategies and current programs for child safety and abuse prevention and training staff on recognizing signs of child abuse and grooming—the appropriate response protocols and ensuring compliance with legal standards related to child welfare.

Summary: The Safety Director ensures the correct exercise and maintenance of all safety and security aspects at H.I.M. and adjoining MorningStar properties. This includes but is not limited to, building-related lifestyle safety and security, key administration, OSHA regulations, fire control systems, 911 calls of a medical or civil nature, and all aspects of daily safety practices.

Essential Functions 

  • Develop a working knowledge of the fire codes and OSHA regulations
  • Communicating with all departments, staff, and visitors regarding potential violations
  • Assessing and resolving criminal activity
  • Provide safety & life-saving training
  • Staff development and training in essential life-saving, first aid, and other safety skills
  • Developing policies, rules, and regulations
  • Evaluate various existing procedures and make proposals for change as needed
  • Conduct and review background checks as needed
  • Conduct internal investigations and well-kept records and filing systems
  • Guide or process evictions as needed
  • Court appearances as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Oversees the online education, training, application, and interview of those working with youth and children and abuse preventtion

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Experience in writing and enforcing rules, laws, and regulations is beneficial
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people in various situations

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of Safety staff

Applies authority as required in safety and law enforcement issues

Working conditions

Office, building, and outside environment.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum of 3 years of field experience in public safety.

Skills in life-saving, use of force, liability, communication, and public speaking are strongly desired.

OSHA 30-hour general industry certification a plus

First Aid/CPR certification a plus
