The Web Developer II position enables major departments in the ministry to fulfill the mission of MorningStar by building, improving, and supporting the multifaceted communication infrastructure with websites and web functions that reach target audiences with ministry messages and resources. It is vital that the Web Developer know, appreciate and understand the mission and culture of MorningStar. This position requires an energetic, disciplined, and solution-oriented person who thrives in an often changing environment. The Web Developer II position enables major departments in the ministry to fulfill the mission of MorningStar by building, improving, and supporting the multifaceted communication infrastructure with websites and web functions that reach target audiences with ministry messages and resources.

This position requires an energetic, disciplined, quick learning, flexible, and solution-oriented person who thrives in an often-changing environment where multiple hats are worn. It’s also essential to have a passion for the continued growth and development of the ministry of MorningStar to the body of Christ around the word.

The person must be full of integrity, friendly, personable, and possess a strong biblical understanding with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate. This person must be flexible, collaborative, and possess strong critical thinking skills. The person should also have excellent time management skills with the ability to accomplish projects on time.

Employee Status: Full Time – Coverage needed during daily business hours; on call for web issues.

Roles and Responsibilities:
 

Role

Primary Responsibilities

Websites

  • Gather requirements, design, and implement website projects
  • Maintain and secure web infrastructure
  • Provide training, support, and assistance for ministry department websites
  • Maintain custom integration scripts and modules

E-Commerce

  • Provide support and technical advice for online transactions and shipping
  • Provide reports for financial transactions and website analytics
  • Administer payment gateways, including Stripe, Braintree, PayPal, and Payflow
  • Administer Shopify, WordPress, and Drupal platforms
  • Develop and maintain custom accounting reports

API

  • Develop custom modules and integration for WordPress, Drupal, Shopify, and other web technologies
  • Develop API Integration with Vimeo, YouTube, Stripe, Braintree, and PayPal

Required Competencies:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • MorningStar Knowledge – Knowledge of MorningStar’s unique purpose in the body of Christ and how to fulfill that vision and purpose.
  • Device compatibility – Competency in a variety of web browsers and mobile devices.
  • Creativity – Demonstrate understanding of current trends in web and design as it relates to website creation and maintenance.
  • Programming – Competent with HTML, CSS, PHP, and SQL.
  • Web hosting – Familiarity with web hosting systems, e.g. LAMP, domains, name servers, SMTP & email relays.
  • Plug-ins – Experience with editing plug-ins for, Drupal or WordPress.
  • Quick leaner – Mentally flexible with an ability to easily learn new concepts and problem-solve.
  • Critical Thinking – Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Solutions oriented.
  • Clear Communication – Highly competent in communicating clearly and effectively with Media and MorningStar staff.
  • Time Management – The ability to manage time effectively to complete a variety of tasks in a timely manner.
  • Team Player – Willingness and ability to support the media and marketing teams regarding technical web issues and live production.

Education/Experience:

  • College degree preferred but not required. Past experience is also considered.
